Purpose
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) will convene a
summit on HIV vaccine research and development on March 25, 2008 in Bethesda, MD.
With the input of experts in the field, NIAID will review its HIV vaccine research
portfolio and seek to determine the most appropriate balance between vaccine discovery
and development. |

During the Summit, panels of experts will initiate and facilitate the discussion
within three broad areas: |
- Vaccine-Related Basic Research, Vaccine Discovery and Vaccine
Development
- Animal Model Development and Utilization
- Clinical Research and Trials

Who Should Attend?
The Summit is designed to stimulate scientific discussion and debate focused on
NIAID’s HIV vaccine research portfolio, as well as HIV vaccine research opportunities
and needs.Scientists working in basic, pre-clinical and clinical HIV vaccine research,
as well as community advocates with background in these areas are welcome to attend.
